“Gloria” is not only the name of the cathedral’s portico, but also the force of nature that supports this journey. The Fisterra Lighthouse, the Sanctuary of A Barca in Muxía, and the viewpoints over the estuary are more than places: they are pauses to understand the meaning of the return.
Volta de Gloria is, ultimately, a complete round-trip experience that allows pilgrims to obtain the three official certificates —Compostela, Fisterrana and Muxiana— and experience the essence of the Camino in its most complete form: spiritual, cultural and Atlantic.
The route covers between 270 y 300 kilometres, divided into stages, and crosses some of the most emblematic landscapes of the Galician coast: the beaches of Carnota and Area Maior, Mounts Pindo and Louro, the Ézaro waterfall, the Corcubión estuary with its islets and islands, and a succession of seafaring towns, Romanesque churches, hórreos and ancient royal roads.
Its origin dates back to the 1990s, cuando Antón Pombo y José de la Riera, founders of the Galician Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago (AGACS), began researching and recovering forgotten Jacobean routes. Following the recognition of the Camino da Ría de Muros-Noia by the Cathedral of Santiago, the idea emerged to close the circle by connecting this new itinerary with the Camino de Santiago: Muxía – Fisterra.
